Coinbase matchmaking scam

Coinbase matchmaking scam

Scammers are impersonating Coinbase and sending fake alerts claiming that your Coinbase account has been linked to a third-party service (such as Ledger Live) without your authorization. This message pressures you to call a fake support number, where the scammers attempt to steal your login information, two-factor authentication (2FA) codes, or cryptocurrency.

How the scam works

Step 1: The victim receives a text message or email that appears to be from Coinbase, warning them that their account has been linked to another service.

Step 2: The message provides a phone number and urges the victim to call immediately if they haven't already.

Step 3: If the victim calls, the scammer, posing as "Coinbase Support," pressures them to provide sensitive information, such as login credentials, API keys, or remote access.

Step 4: Once the scammers gain access, they attempt to drain the victim's cryptocurrency funds or steal personal information.

✓ Do this

Check your account alerts directly in the Coinbase app or on the official website.

Contact Coinbase only through their official support channels.

Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on your Coinbase account.

Report suspicious text messages, emails, or phone calls to the Coinbase fraud team.

✗ Avoid this

Do not call phone numbers that appear in unsolicited text messages or emails.

Do not share your login credentials, recovery phrase, or 2FA codes with anyone.

Do not click on suspicious links or download unknown files claiming to be from Coinbase.
